Humanist Centres for Science and Social Reforms

Societies have only ever changed in a meaningful manner through the agency of knowledge and reason.

Societies have only ever changed in a meaningful manner through the agency of knowledge and reason. Most modern societies have experienced a renaissance or a rebirth which led to a recognition and acceptance of Universal Human Values, Universal Human Rights and Secular ethics.

But not all Societies around the world, and not all members of a society are at the same wavelength. If the process of creating a great Cosmopolitan Global Human community is to be quickened, then all actors in society should come forward.

But what is to be done to provide the impetus and the incentive for such an improvement when Governments are reluctant or when private parties are themselves spreading orthodoxy and primitive ideas? Where can people who wish to make a positive change in the world without reference to God or religion meet and congregate? Where do Humanists or Secular persons meet others like them?

To meet these needs and to act as a nucleus for like-minded persons, and a motor for Social Reform, SAHA is proposing the creation of Humanist Centres for Science and Social Reform around the world, particularly aiming that this be to assist South Asian expat communities.

These Centres will have space and resource for Science and Art Exhibitions, facilities for performance of Secular and Humanist Rites of passage, possibilities of training volunteers and social work activists to carry out better their noble tasks of improving the Human condition, and for Freethinkers, Rationalists and Humanists to meet with each other.

In short, these Humanist Centres will assist the Humanist community as well as operate for the ideological defence of civilization’s great achievements, many of which happened in South Asia.
